Midfield Duo Sign

Midfield Duo Sign

Zander Shayler28 Sep 2023 - 17:00

The club can confirm that they signed highly experienced midfield pair Danny Elliot and Ben Gowing.

Ben Gowing returns to the club for his second spell after previously playing under James Jepson where he made an impressive return of 13 goals from 32 appearances before leaving to join up with former Red Badger striker Paddy Webb at Mickleover FC.

In his youth Gowing got scouted for professional clubs such as Leicester City, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Burton Albion but it never worked out. He then signed for Belper Town debuting at just 16, and later trialled at Coventry City for 18 months before spells at Long Eaton United, Dunkirk, Belper United and Eastwood Town. More recently since his departure from Mickleover FC, the now 30-year old has appeared for Anstey Nomads and last season Quorn FC helping the fox hunters gain promotion from the UCL Premier North.

Joint boss Martin Ball expressed his delight to capture the signature of Ben, “Gowing is no stranger to the Eastwood fans after a successful spell here previously. DT and myself have both been in the same side as Ben previously so we know exactly what he is about and the quality he has both with and without the ball. He scores goals, moves the ball quickly and has valuable experience that the younger lads can learn from. Again, he was another player we tried to bring in, in the summer but for outside reasons it didn't quite happen. We are delighted to manage to get him this time round and look forward to working with him in a different dynamic, and seeing the quality he will bring into our side.”

The second addition of the day is former Eastwood Town fan favourite Danny Elliot. The recently turn 32-year-old has played his football at Carlton Town for the past four seasons racking up nearly 100 appearances. In 2011 Elliot was one of the first signings made by Jamie Brough for Eastwood Town as the Badgers looked to consolidate in the conference North after the departure of Paul Cox. The central midfielder would go on to make over 80 appearances in black and white before eventually leaving to join Carlton Town for his first spell with the Millers.

Martin Ball added: “ DT & myself have known Danny for a very long time, and know him really well outside of football as well as in the changing room. We tried to bring him in when we first got the job and again in the summer but the timing wasn't quite right. He is very experienced and has everything we have been missing in the last few weeks. He will get on the ball and get us ticking, but also break up play and do the simple thing very very well. A lot of his work often goes unnoticed, but from my time playing in the same side, I would say he is one of the best midfielders I have played with throughout my career as a player. He's a great lad off the pitch and will add value to the dressing room which is important for every player that we look to bring into the squad.”

We can also confirm the return of Jordan Knight from his four week loan spell at Gedling Miners Welfare. Knight started all six of his appearances for Gedling, scoring one goal and picking up four wins for the Division 1 side.

All three players are available for selection for this weekend’s league match against Lincoln United.
