Eastwood started the game slowly and Linby took full advantage dominating the opening minutes of the game forcing several set plays but they couldn't turn their dominance into the opening goal. Eastwood eventually got themselves into the game and forced several goal scoring opportunities.Kane Mathews had his effort blocked by the keeper when clear on goal, Rory Smith tame effort was comfortably saved in a 1 on 1 situation. Jack Smith did have the ball in the net with a angled drive into the bottom corner but was harshly disallowed for handball. Linby took the lead on the stroke of half time when Harris broke into the Eastwood area and after a fine run applied the finish.
HT ECFC 0-1 Linby Colliery
Harsh words were spoken at half time ( which needed to be ) in the Eastwood dressing room to try and get a positive reaction and the players were reminded that their performance was no where near the standard expected. Eastwood equalised on the hour when Chay Betteridge found himself space in the penalty area and finished into the top corner. Two minutes later Eastwood were ahead when Paddy Webb unleashed an unstoppable drive from left edge of the area into the opposite corner. Virtually straight from the restart Linby equalised when again Harris drove at the home defence and applied a cool finish.
As both sides went in search of the winning goal it was Eastwood who secured all 3 points late on in the game. Paddy Webb cross cum shot effort from the left side squirmed under the unfortunate keeper into his own net. Eastwood gained their first win of the season but know they must improve all over the pitch in future weeks ahead.
