Eastwood were without James Duncan, Rory Smith, Kyle McDermott and James Hallam from their impressive midweek victory in the Notts Senior Cup against Newark Town.
Sherwood started the game much the stronger side and had Eastwood on the back foot from the off.Eastwood cause wasn't helped after 10 minutes loosing skipper Aaron Short through injury. After putting Eastwood under pressure it was no surprise the home side took the lead on the half hour when Theakstone finished at the far post after Eastwood failed to clear a cross from the left flank.
Sherwood doubled their lead a minute later in what could only be described as school boy defending by Eastwood and Williams capitalised and finished from inside the area.Sherwood also had strong claims for a penalty turned on 36 minutes. In truth Eastwood failed to carve out a single clear chance in the half which Sherwood dominated from start to finish.
Half-Time Sherwood Colliery 2-0 ECFC
Things didn't get any better in the second half performance wise from Eastwood as much to often they missed out the midfield and played to direct to their strikers which was dealt with comfortably by the home side centre backs. On 70 minutes Eastwood thought they'd got back into the game but Kane Mathews far post finish was ruled out for off side. In the final minutes of the game Eastwood did pull a goal back on 87 minutes when Paddy Webb shot was parried by the keeper but Webb followed in to head the rebound into the net. If Eastwood had any ideas about grabbing a point Sherwood had other ideas when Theakstone pounced on a short back pass to secure the deserved 3 points.
There was no complaints from Eastwood about the result as they were second best on the day all over the pitch.
