Again Eastwood made changes to their starting eleven for a midweek game. Jack Millward, Jack Smith, Danny Hayes, Greg Conn and Jamie Thomas all returned to the side from Saturday's league victory against Pinxton.
Right from kick off Eastwood dominated possession while Aslockton were happy to get players behind the ball working tremendously hard and always looking to catch Eastwood on the breakaway. Patience was key for the home side but much too often in the opening minutes their build up play was to slow and predictable which the visitors coped with comfortably. After the frustrating opening minutes Eastwood began to move the ball far quicker and they started to create chances. Top goal scorer Paddy Webb and Jack Smith both had good efforts saved by the keeper. From a set play Danny Hayes powerful header was cleared off the line. While Eastwood were creating chances Aslockton posed a threat on the break. On 30 minutes Jamie Thomas cleared the danger with a recovering challenge with the visiting striker in a dangerous position on the edge of the penalty area. However on the stroke of half time Eastwood's patience payed off, Paddy Webb finished off a flowing move cutting inside his marker onto his right foot and curled his effort into the bottom corner.
Half-Time ECFC 1-0 AOFC
The second half followed in much the same vein as the first with Eastwood having to be patient against the hard working visitors. Again Danny Hayes had another header from a set play cleared off the line. On the hour Greg Conn got clear down the right side and his pull back found Jack Millward whose effort was blocked. Two minutes later Paddy Webb thunderous strike struck the upright. Eastwood eventually doubled their lead on 68 minutes when Rory Smith finished at the far post off a cross from Paddy Webb.
In the final minutes of the game Asuman scored for the visitors getting in front of his marker from a set play to apply a neat volleyed finish.
Full Time ECFC 2-1 AOFC
An eleventh straight win for Eastwood who made hard work of it on the night, but to Aslockton’s credit they defended very well and kept to their game plan superbly.
