After a slow start to pre-season Eastwood CFC kicked in to gear last night putting six goals without reply against local rival’s Awsworth Villa.

The red badgers bounced back from a heavy defeat at the weekend to comfortably beat Awsworth and get back to winning ways.

The home side made three changes from the team that faced Ilkeston Town, Kieran Knight (Holiday), Rory Smith (Bench) and Jamie Thomas (Bench) dropped out and in came Danny Hayes, Chay Bettridge and Kaylum Mitchell.

Eastwood started the game well with Paddy Webb and Kaylum Mitchell looking dangerous down the flanks and it was only going to be a matter of time before Eastwood opened the scoring. Seven minutes in a strike from Jack James put Eastwood ahead after Paddy Webb’s initial effort was saved. It was two-nil five minutes later as Billy Brooks whipped in a fantastic cross which met the head of the on rushing Danny Hayes from just inside the area. Eastwood scored a third when the Awsworth centre half headed the ball in to his own net. 3-0

Despite the pressure Eastwood failed to extend their lead before the break, Webb, K Mitchell, James and Bettridge all having shots saved.

With the game seemingly dead by half time it was to the surprise of most that Awsworth came out second half offering a lot more resistant and giving Eastwood a real work out.
Numerous changes after the break saw; Rory Smith, Callum McGarry, Joe Butler, David Jones, John Whitehurst, Harry Allen introduced. With Billy Brooks, Jack James, Paddy Webb, Chay Bettridge, Kyle Wrenn, Connor Wrenn and Kaylum Mitchell all being replaced.

The changes freshened the side up with players like Callum McGarry and Joe Butler offering some pace and energy in to the Eastwood attacks. Eastwood scored two goals in as many minutes to take the game firmly away from Awsworth first Callum McGarry played through John Whitehurst who after some good footwork finished well with his left foot. Then Joe Butler made a run to the by-line before cutting the ball back from Rory Smith to head home just under the cross-bar.

The final goal of the game marked the comeback of Harry Allen, eight minutes from time Sam Meakin’s strong run down the left hand side was matched with an excellent cross where the big man Harry Allen controlled the ball well before finishing with ease.
