Eastwood progressed to the FA Vase second round with a hard fought victory over League and local rivals Selston.

Eastwood win was based on hard work, and organization in which each player stuck to their game plan and competed in every department.

In difficult windy conditions it was Eastwood who opened the scoring on 13 minutes. Danny Hayes headed effort at the far post was well saved by the keeper but in the goal mouth scramble which followed with several efforts being cleared off the line. It was finally Jack James shot which was adjudged to have crossed the line by the assistant. Eastwood nearly doubled their lead 5 minutes later when Joe Butler fine angled volley from distance struck the top of the upright. Although Selston enjoyed large amounts of possession it was Eastwood who looked more dangerous as an attacking force.

Selston did have a couple of half chances with Gregory and Moore having shots from distance. Taylor had Selston clearest chance of the half but couldn't direct his free header from a dangerous set play. On the stroke of half time it was Eastwood who created another good chance. Joe Butler again did well down the right side but Kieran Knight couldn't get enough power on his headed effort from Butler excellent cross.

Half-Time Eastwood CFC 1-0 Selston

Again as the first half Selston enjoyed large amounts of possession but without really troubling Eastwood in the final third of the pitch, while Eastwood always carried a threat going forward especially on the break. On one of Eastwood breaks Paddy Webb did really well on a surging run but his lobbed effort just didn't enough power to trouble the visiting keeper. Eastwood keeper Jack Walker was also called into action tipping a powerful strike around his post.

As the half wore on Selston began to push more and more onto Eastwood looking for an equaliser but struggled to break Eastwood down. Eastwood took advantage on 86 minutes when substitute John Whitehurst intelligent cross field pass freed Paddy Webb and the young striker excellent run and cross was converted from close range by Rory Smith. On 88 minutes Eastwood added a third when John Whitehurst again played in Paddy Webb and Webb coolly rounded the keeper to finish well.
