Red Badgers hunt down and beat the Foxes

Eastwood CFC......3 (Shannon-Lewis '4, Hearn '44, Woolley '69)
Quorn FC..............1 (Chilaka '38)

Eastwood back to winning ways

Following last weeks blip in Skegness Eastwood gained all three points in a hard fought, determined and, at times, a tricky encounter.

New signings Tyrell Shannon-Lewis and Kole Lambert went straight into the staring line up and Cal Jones replaced Jack Andrews at left back. The home side showed their intent from the off as they moved forward and, with only 4 minutes on the clock, took a deserved lead.
Sean Woolley swung over a pin-point free kick from the left and as the ball bounced around the area debutant Tyrell Shannon-Lewis was the first to react and he stooped to head home. His trademark somersault celebration, seen around local grounds for many a game, was a joy to behold.

Minutes later Woolley hit the bar with a fine effort as Eastwood gained the upper hand. Quorn looked a little shell shocked at the start the home side had made and for 20 or so minutes were hanging on. They did, however, start to get a foothold in the game and Jordan Clarke and skipper Nathan Dale had efforts go tantalisingly close. Left back Harry Clibbens also tried his luck with a powerful run and shot which Mark Rathbone saved with some difficulty but safely.

Chib Chilaka was proving to be a lively presence up front and it was no surprise when he levelled the scores after 37 minutes. A Dale through ball caught the homesters flat footed and Chilaka slotted the ball home wide of Rathbone.

Shortly before the break the lead was restored. Shannon-Lewis turned Clibbens inside out down the right and his low cross was swept in by Liam Hearn for his sixth goal of the season. 2-1 going into half time and just about deserved on the run of play.

The action never abated in the second period and top scorer McKenna Parton was unlucky to see his shot go inches wide after fine build up play from Kole Lambert. Player of the match Charlie Marzano who, along with Woolley was bossing the midfield, was also unlucky with a fine try from distance which had Max Culverwell struggling.

Twenty minutes before time and the killer and ultimately winning goal. A Hearn corner was sent low and true into the area and Woolley was the quickest to react to sweep the ball under Culverwell for his sides 3rd goal and his firdt for the club. The visitors were always in the game at 2-1 but the Woolley goal seemed to knock the fight out of the visitors. Blair Anderson, on as a substitute was causing problems with his directness and pace and the visitors were lucky not to concede further as the Red Badgers looked to increase the lead. Both Parton and Anderson could have easily added to the scoreline.

The game petered out in the last 10 as the points were well and truly recorded. A welcome boost of confidence after the poor show on the east coast last time out before a tricky away trip to Holbeach this coming Saturday (9th)
