ECFC 0 v BASFORD UTD 3

Eastwood crashed out of the Notts Senior Cup against step 3 opposition Basford Utd. It was always going to be a difficult game for Eastwood against Basford and as expected the visitors dominated possession for the whole of the game with Eastwood keeper Jake Pearson being the far busier on the night. Eastwood made 2 enforced changes from Saturday’s away league win at Radford. Kallum Greaves replaced the unavailable Greg Conn while Joe Butler came in for injured Kieran Knight. Jack James and Chay Betteridge were recalled to the matchday squad.

Eastwood made the worst possible start to the game after 1 minute when Watson directed a free header into the corner of the goal from 8 yards. Eastwood responded with John Whitehurst strike from distance being well saved by Deeney. Basford came close to adding their second goal but Pearson was on hand to save with his feet on the goal line. Basford did add a second goal on the half hour when Watson again found space in the penalty area and applied a cool finish. On the stroke of half time, Eastwood striker Paddy Webb latched onto a headed flick-on by Jack Allen but couldn’t direct his shot on target.

Half-Time 0.2

As the first half Eastwood conceded very early on when an in swinging corner found Grantham who bundled home from inside the 6-yard box. To their credit Eastwood never gave in and got through a tremendous amount of work to keep themselves in the game.

Basford again dominated large amounts of possession but when they did get behind the home defence they couldn’t find the final ball. In the final minutes of the game with Eastwood still working extremely hard the home side had 1 final effort at goal when Paddy Webb powerful free-kick was well held by Deeney.

Full-Time 0.3

Eastwood must now focus on 2 very important home games starting on Saturday in their League game against Teversal and on Wednesday Eastwood entertain Belper Utd in the league cup.
