Eastwood CFC 3 v GEDLING Miners Welfare 1

Eastwood CFC secured their first 3 points of the season with a hard fought victory against Gedling Miners Welfare. Eastwood made 2 changes to the starting eleven from their previous league defeat at Ingles. Rory Smith and John Whitehurst replaced Jack James and Paddy Webb also Dave Jones was recalled to the squad.

Eastwood forced the first chance of the game when Betteridge free kick was well saved by the visiting keeper. Gedling responded immediately when Coy's effort brought home keeper Walker into the action. Gedling actually enjoyed most of the possession especially in midfield and duly took the lead on the half hour. Eastwood CFC failed to deal with a headed ball back into their penalty area and Jepson was on hand to calmly finish from close range.

Eastwood responded well and equalised three minutes later Betteridge strike from the edge of the area found the bottom corner of the net via the post. Both sides had chances before the break. Betteridge effort was brilliantly cleared off his own line by a Gedling defender. At the other end Gedling had an effort strike the post.

Half-Time: ECFC 1-1 Gedling Miners Welfare

Eastwood CFC started the half in dominant fashion and started to ask far more questions of the visiting defence. Kyle Wren had their first effort with a volleyed effort from fully thirty yards which went narrowly wide.

Eastwood added a deserved second goal on 59 minutes when Meakin's cross was coolly converted by Kaylum Mitchell. Betteridge had a clear sight of goal 2 minutes later but lobbed over the bar with the keeper stranded. Eastwood gave themselves a 2 goal cushion on 70 minutes when Rory Smith burst into the penalty area and was adjudged to have been tripped. Betteridge made no mistake from the resulting spot kick.

Eastwood looked to increase their lead further with Rory Smith poking his effort wide and substitute Paddy Webb having an effort well saved.

Gedling had the last effort of the game when Jepson found himself in space in Eastwood's area but the striker pulled his effort wide.
