Eastwood CFC Reserves 4-1 Sherwood Colliery Reserves

This afternoon Eastwood CFC Reserves home gamed survived the weather as they played out a convincing 4-1 victory against Sherwood Colliery Reserves.

Last year's league champion's Sherwood have had an indifferent season compared to their last, currently sitting eleventh in the league before the start of play however had won four of their previous five coming in to today's fixture.

Eastwood had won six games on the bounce and after sixteen league games were still undefeated. The home side made six changes from the team that destroyed Cromford 7-2 last time out, Kallum O'Dowd, Callum Clarke, Takunda Mushambi and Owen Everton dropped to the bench in came keeper Jake Pearson, Kieran Knight, Leyton Nethercot, Jack Smith, Callum McGarry and James Duncan.

Eastwood lined up in a 3-5-2 with James Duncan, Danny Tring and Connor Wrenn making up the back three with Brandon Bellfield and Kurt Harrison sat just in front, Leyton Nethercot and Tom Eastwood as wing backs and Callum McGarry just behind the front two of Jack Smith and Kieran Knight. The 'Red Badgers' started the brightest Kieran Knight having several chances on goal the Sherwood keeper dealing with the efforts comfortably. A couple of great blocks from Connor Wrenn and James Duncan kept the score line goalless as Sherwood started to find their feet in the game.

Then in a seven minute spell Eastwood took the game away from Sherwood, first a Tom Eastwood corner was met by the header of Danny Tring his header was blocked but Academy player Leyton Nethercot was on hand to head home the rebound. Kieran Knight doubled the score on thirty-four minutes, before Tom Eastwood ran through and fired past the keeper to make it 3-0 nine minutes before the interval.

As the half drew to a close a few fierce challenges started flying in, James Duncan being one of the players to be booked on the stroke of half time.

Sherwood pulled a goal back six minutes in to the second period, after several blocks by the Eastwood defence a powerful shot from the Sherwood forward from in side the box gave Sherwood a possible way back in to the game. 3-1

The away side were on top for ten minutes or so but struggled to carve out any real chances with the solid three of; Wrenn, Duncan and Tring standing firm. The introduction of Kallum O'Dowd and Owen Everton added a bit of energy in to the Eastwood attack.

Eleven minutes from time Sherwood got in behind the Eastwood defence but their shot was expertly saved by the legs of the out rushing keeper Pearson to keep the score at 3-1.

Then a moment of real quality, after some nice play in the centre of the pitch, O'Dowd released Tom Eastwood down the left his pass found the feet of Kieran Knight who drove at the Sherwood defence working his way in to the box and like he so often does, step over on to his left foot to smash the ball home in off the post 4-1 game set and match.

There was still time for Pearson to pull off another couple of excellent saves first from a Sherwood free-kick on the edge of the area tipping the ball just over the bar and then from a shot from the resulting corner, superb goalkeeping.
