Eastwood CFC Development 5-1 Wollaton FC
Eastwood kick off their NSL campaign in style beating Wollaton FC.
After a good preseason the 1st test was upon the Development team with a Friday night opening match against an experienced Wollaton team at home.
There was a touch of nerves with the team with a few loose passes and first touches in the first 20 minutes, and Wollaton maybe having the better chances both thwarted by Jack Walker in goal.
As the half wore on Eastwood started to take a control of the centre of the park with TK being influential in all the attacking play, and Kieran Knight and Dave Jones beginning to find opportunities down the channels and behind the full backs, after a tough 30 minutes where both Wollaton centre half's being rather physical on Eastwood’s front two, but they stood up to the challenge well.
A goal was needed to settle Eastwood down and with 5 minutes left in the 1st half it arrived. A Cal McGarry cross from the right was met by TK who outjumped his marker and headed into the far corner 1-0 Eastwood at half time and just about deserved.

The beginning of the 2nd half saw Wollaton come out strongly after a slight tactical adjustment at half time and they were rewarded with Matt Goodwin scoring a scrappy goal from about 6 yards out.
This though seemed to spur Eastwood on and the sheer energy and speed of the Eastwood attacks increased and Wollaton’s goalkeeper Kellam making at least 5 great saves within a short period of time. The break through did come and from something of a rarity a Kieran Knight header from 6 yards out from a great cross from Owen Everton. From there Wollaton had a go and if IT wasn’t for Kal O’Dowd’s goal line clearing header things might have been different.
From there, Wollaton seem to run out of steam a neat bit of football and a shot into the near corner from Dave Jones made it 3-1 and Eastwood then had daylight.
Both the strikers then added to further goal each after good build up play and nicely taken goals into the far corner of the net.
FT: Eastwood CFC Dev 5-1 Wollaton FC
A great start and the team can take a lot of positives from the match, energy, commitment and team work from all 14 players, however we are reminded it is only the 1st game and more challenges lie ahead.
