Having returned to winning ways last time out, Eastwood CFC travelled to Calverton on Saturday looking for another win to keep them in the hunt for the Division 2 title.

The Eastwood lads started brightly, Noah Curtis creating the first chance of the game all for himself with a powerful run and shot which was well saved. This was quickly followed by a sensational effort from Logan Allan which would surely have been a goal of the season contender, had his lobbed effort from distance not smashed into the crossbar.

The pressure was eventually rewarded when Ethan Cross picked up the ball just inside the home half and drove at the defence before firing his shot into the top corner to make it a well-deserved 1-0. And it was soon two with Logan getting on the scoresheet, a close range finish which wasn’t as spectacular as his earlier effort, but very well taken nonetheless.

The away side went into half-time looking very much in control of the game but they weren’t to have things all their own way as the Calverton boys started on the front foot after the break. They were given little to cheer about, however. Eastwood’s Ellis Ward and Kaiden Anyanwu were in complete control at the back and Euan Parker in goal was not only protecting his clean sheet but also getting his team moving forward with some excellent distribution off the floor.

Having come through this period of pressure unscathed, Eastwood regained the upper hand once again. Calverton were never allowed any time on the ball and Rylan Jackson in particular ensured the ball was always won back high up the pitch, providing a great platform for attack. With Conrad Hawryluk revelling in a more advanced right wing role, chances were coming with regularity and a third goal was only a matter of time.

It finally came following some excellent work by Ronnie May. His first touch was perfect, taking the ball around the defender and giving him the space to hit a shot that had too much on it for the keeper.

On another day, a few more goals could have followed but the home keeper made a couple of excellent saves including from a superbly hit long range free kick by Ellis. They did get a fourth just before the end though, Ethan with his second when his shot from the edge of the area slipped unfortunately through the keepers hands. 4-0 the final score and an excellent all round performance which sets them up well for the final league game.
