The Red Badgers made it three consecutive wins on Saturday afternoon as they came from behind to beat Clay Cross Town 4-2. Thomas Hodgkinson had given us a second minute lead with his first senior goal for the club but Town soon equalised and then took the lead going into half time. Clay Cross kept their lead until the 83rd minute where Tyler Blake slotted home before two late goals in injury time secured the win.

Saturday’s hosts also won 4-2 this past weekend as they moved to within two points of the play offs. Last season United finished fourth but much like us they fell at the first hurdle in the play off’s and exited before the final.

Previous meetings: Before this weekend the clubs have never met, with Irchester United earning promotion from the Northants Combination League in 2023 into the Spartan South Midland Football League securing 19th and 4th place finishes.

Player Watch: The Romans number ten Lachi Codrington notched up nine goals in eleven appearances this season including a brace this past Saturday, leaving him just four goals off his tally for the entirety of last season. New signing Dylan Wilson made the perfect start as the Striker scored two on his debut last weekend. Will Howes will be suspended for the fixture after being dismissed late on in Saturday’s win.

Squad Update: Harvey Ridgley remains a doubt with injury, Jermain Hollis sits out the second of his third game ban, Tyler Blake is also suspended. Will Robinson continues to push for a return, Toby Woodward will be hoping to have recovered from a wrist injury that ruled him out last Saturday. Saturday’s man of the match Thomas Hodgkinson will be aiming for back to back starts for the first time whilst Marcus Marshall could make just his second start since October 2023.
