Wisbech currently sit twelveth in the UCL Northern Premier Division having won fourteen of their thirty-six league games this season.
Martin Ball and Daryll Thomas’ side enter the game off the back of a one goal defeat on the road against Skegness Town last time out. The Red Badgers find themselves without a win away from home since August 2022 a run that has included eighteen matches.
Joint gaffer Daryll Thomas reflected back on last Saturday’s defeat.
“Last weekend was a strange game as Skegness scored from what can only be described as a shambles of a goal conceded by us but I thought we had the better chances first half and could of got a result but something that really disappointed us was the attitude and application from a large part of the team which isn’t acceptable so although this weekends game is a “dead rubber” we’ll be expecting a reaction from certain players.”
Saturday’s trip to the South-East is Eastwood’s final fixture of the season; Thomas spoke on the team’s performance since their his arrival.
“ We’re finally delighted to see we are mathematically safe from relegation going into the final game of the season, myself and Bally have learnt so much in a short space of time and we really do appreciate and respect every single player that has represented Eastwood CFC since we have taken over. Taking 11 points from 12 games I think represents a steady start to management for us both even though we demand better from ourselves we have to constantly remind ourselves it’s our first job hopefully people at the club and supporters remember that as well. ”
The Red Badgers recorded a 5-2 home victory against Saturday’s opposition in December under the management of former boss Nick Labbatte.
Thomas feels it has been a difficult season for everyone at the club and is keen to end the season well.
“We know it’s been a difficult season for everyone at the club losing way to many game’s week in week out but as a management team we would like to say thank you for sticking with it and we are so excited for next season already and hopefully bringing back exciting winning football back to the Halbrooke Stadium.”
Player Watch: Wide man Momodou Janneh is one to watch appearing in forty-two of ‘The Fenmen’ forty-six games season. Leading the way in appearances and his tally of ten goals takes his second in the clubs goal scoring charts.
Previous Meetings: The only previous meeting was the reverse fixture at the Halbrooke Stadium just four months ago. Eastwood running out 5-2 victors, Isaac Morledge had given the hosts the lead before Wisbech hit back in first half injury time drawing the game level at the break. Eastwood re-took the lead through Jack Thatcher and went further in front Morledge and Thatcher doubling their tally’s for the afternoon giving the Red Badger’s 4-1 advantage. The vistors goalkeeper Luke Pearson saw red before substitute Etien Omari finished off the scoring four minutes from the end.
Martin Ball confirmed that Eastwood are set to be without defenders Ben Wallis and Conor Moore, with captain Jermain Hollis also absent. Kamani Wilson, Jordan Knight, Cameron Thurgood and Ryan Tait are all available for the trip to Wisbech.
Only Wisbech have picked up more red cards than Eastwood this season the two sides accumulating twenty-two dismissal’s between them this campaign. Not surprisingly as stated earlier there was a sending off in the reverse fixture back in December with Wisbech goalkeeper Luke Pearson seeing red in the seventy-ninth minute.
Kick-off is at 3pm and tickets are available to purchase on the day at Wisbech Town.
Seats are still available for the coach leaving the Halbrooke Stadium at 11:15am on Saturday morning. We would love to see you there.
