MATCH PREVIEW - Saturday 5th April 2025

Zander Shayler2 Apr - 16:54

We open April with the second leg of our league fixtures with Newark & Sherwood United.

Following a four week absence from Coronation Park the Red Badgers returned home and suffered a surprise 4-1 defeat against Saturday’s opponents. The squad will be looking to avenge last Saturday’s home defeat as Newark & Sherwood became just the third side to leave Coronation Park with all three points since last March.

Saturday’s hosts will be hoping for more of the same as Kieran Cummings added to his already impressive goal tally as his second half brace took his total to 30 goals for the season. Newark who have won just twice on home soil since November will be hoping to pick up another three points as they look to climb the table from their current twelfth position.

Previous meetings: In the last match up away from Coronation Park a late Tyler Blake goal sealed the three points after Liam Moran’s strike had cancelled out Tyreece Robinson’s opener. Prior to that the Red Badgers had lost the previous three away fixtures with two taking place at Newark Floweserve and the other being played at Basford United.

Player Watch: As mentioned last week, the former Ilkeston Town and Shepshed Dynamo winger Kieran Cummings is certainly a player to watch the attacker proved that last weekend, where he scored yet another brace. Goalkeeper Nykah Liburd-Hines put on a strong performance keeping the score at 1-0 in the first half to keep Newark in the game, the shot stopper was without a club after leaving Nottingham Forest before spells at Hereford, Lincoln United, Carlton Town and Rugby Town. Liburd-Hines then joined Newark from Aylestone Park the week before Xmas.

Squad Update: Plenty of concerns for the management duo going into this weekend with Jake Wright, Aaron Opoku, Daniel Elliott and Lavell White all big doubts. Oliver Robinson could start at centre half for just the second time since September whilst Alfie Flynn could also be named on the bench for just the sixth time this season. Jermain Hollis is now joint sixth in the clubs all time appearances list, the midfielder is just three appearances behind fifth place Callum Jones.
