MATCH PREVIEW: Tuesday 8th July 2025

Zander Shayler8 Jul - 16:59

The games are coming thick and fast as we entered our third game of pre-season tonight.

Ball & Thomas’ men head into tonight’s game looking to build on Saturday’s impressive 4-1 victory over step 3 local rivals Ilkeston Town. The fixture saw the Red Badgers field nine players under the age of 21 including Academy Scholar Reuben Clowes who netted Eastwood’s fourth goal of the game. Clowes who has been at the club since Under 9’s, made his debut last September and impressed on Saturday afternoon marking a fantastic day for the club as we showed off the incredible pathway we have at Eastwood CFC.

Basford will be no push overs this evening, as they look to build a promotion charge and return to step 3 next season.

Previous meetings: The last battle between the two teams took place in December where United dumped the Red Badgers out of the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup at the first hurdle, inflicting just the second home defeat in the competition on Eastwood CFC for over four years. A Tyrrell Waite double inside five second half minutes was enough to clinch Basford’s place in the next round, Finnley Commons did make it a nervy final couple of minutes when the substitute halved the deficit in the second minute of injury time, but United hung on.

Player Watch: New Basford recruits Kieran Cummings and Ryan Ebanks are likely to be on show with former Eastwood CFC youth product Jack Goodman likely to lead the line up front. Cummings netted on 32 occasions for Newark & Sherwood United last campaign with no player scoring more from open play than him in that division.
