Clinical Sherwood edge out the Red Badgers by the odd goal in three.

A solid defence combined with a clinical strike force from Sherwood was too much for Eastwood on the night.

Despite dominating large periods of the first half in terms of possession and chances Eastwood couldn't find the break through they deserved, the best chance of the half falling to Patrick Webb who with the whole goal to aim at, managed to smash the ball into the Sherwood keeper.

HT ECFC 0-0 Sherwood

The second half Sherwood were the better team, Eastwood struggled to penetrate Colliery's stubborn back four. Eastwood switched off from a corner and Sherwood's big centre half powered his header into the roof of the net to break the deadlock. The game then opened up as both sides exchanged shots at each other's goals. With fifteen minutes to play Sam Meakin's corner was met by the head of Jack James who's attempt was blocked but the ball fell kindly for poacher Kieren Watson to draw the home side level. As the game got into the final seven minutes it looked like both sides had settled for the point, but a lapse in the Eastwood defence was punished by Kieran Wells to restore Sherwood's lead and win them the game.

The defeat was Eastwood's first at home since February, and the first victory for Sherwood over Eastwood since September 2017.

1st Team gaffer James Jepson reflected back on last nights 2-1 defeat against title favourites Sherwood.

Managers after match thoughts

“Gutted to be honest but fair play to Sherwood, in the end they deserved the 3 points. Some days you have to hold your hands up. First half we played well and on another day we go in 1-0 up, but no excuses”.

“We had a go and got the goal back but sloppy play allowed Sherwood the chance to regain the lead and they punished us”

“It’s the first competitive game we have lost since Ashby away last season so our run has come to an end”

“We will pick the bones out of it and be ready for Clipstone on Saturday”

“On a positive note I thought Our academy player CJ came on and was superb, at 16 years of age he wanted the ball and was prepared to fight. He has been to every training session since June and has his chance because he deserves it and shown he is good enough and has the application to be better and better.”
