Derby Day Win In Front Of A Bumper Bank Holiday Crowd

Derby Day Win In Front Of A Bumper Bank Holiday Crowd

Zander Shayler29 Aug 2024 - 09:37

The Red Badgers made it three wins on the bounce with a 4-0 triumph over neighbours Kimberley Miners Welfare.

The biggest attendance at Coronation Park in almost a year watched on as Eastwood hit four without on a sunny afternoon in Nottingham.

Daryll Thomas and Martin Ball were forced into two changes from the side that beat Boston Town two days earlier, Aaron O'Connor was named in the starting eleven but broke down during the warm up and was replaced by Ryan Tait, Oliver Robinson is nursing an ankle injury so was rested from the start with Lavell White earning a recall. Jordan Fankwe kept his place in midfield after a very impressive display at Boston, Phil Watt partnered Jake Wright at the heart of Eastwood's defence with Watt having not conceded a goal since the opening day of the season. Kamani Wilson was the only alteration to the squad that played in Lincolnshire. In the absence of Aaron O'Connor Jake Wright captained the side.

Kimberley who opened the season with a 6-1 win, went into the game winless in four in the league but they did progress in the FA Vase over the weekend picking up a 3-0 win over Holwell Sports.

It was the visitors that started brightest, in form Lewis Weaver sent an effort whistling past the post. Alex Troke then released Tyler Blake who looked certain to the score only for the Kimberley skipper to recover at the last moment. From the resulting corner Westcarr headed wide as Eastwood started to take control of the game.

The Red Badgers opened the scoring two minutes before the half hour mark, Wilson's clearance was flicked on by Troke with the ball dropping to Westcarr who did just about enough to hold off his man allowing Alex Troke to race through and to finish confidently one-on-one.

Minutes later Troke involved again, this time provider picking out Westcarr who's effort went narrowly wide. Kimberley had a glorious chance to equalise moments before the break, Dan Tuck's ball forward found Weaver who was judged to be onside and with only Wilson to beat the Kimberley wide man put his effort wide. Despite the late pressure from the visitors, Eastwood were the happier of the two sides but knew that they needed to put the game to bed.

Eastwood CFC 1-0 Kimberley Miners Welfare

Like the first period Kimberley started brighter with Lavell White displaying an excellent piece of defending to thwart Paul Johnson bearing down on goal. Eastwood doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half, Tyler Blake with a lung bursting run that ended with the forward being hacked down on the edge of the area, up stepped Alex Troke to continue his excellent form of late, curling the free kick past Smith.

Troke almost completed his hat trick, Blake’s pass into Westcarr was teed up perfectly for Troke but he could only blaze over the bar. Less than a minute later it was 3-0. Phil Watt’s inch perfect pass picked out Westcarr who calmly lifted the ball over the outrushing Smith.

The final goal of the game came when Finnley Commons made a burst down the right wing before pulling the ball back towards Bertram, the substitute cutely dummied the pass allowing the ball to roll through to Tyler Blake to get a well deserved goal.

Another dominant performance and win as Eastwood extended their lead at the top to three points. The win and clean sheet also extended Eastwood's run of three straight home victories in the league with the Red Badgers yet to concede at home this campaign.
