A well anticipated match against a team Eastwood have never played before. Always good to play new teams and test ourselves. Eastwood definitely came to give Vernon a game and battled well in the first few minutes. Vernon managed to edge ahead early though as Dan hit a shotcross from the right that ended in the far corner.
Vernon settled after this and scored a second soon after with an excellent header. Vernon were wary of Eastwood as an attacking force particularly as they didn't have our usual superb goalie and the lads were all taking a turn, so we kept it tight at the back and won our individual battles and added a third before half time with Noah coming off the bench to slot one in the corner. The second half was a similar story with plenty of endeavor from Eastwood, without them creating any clear chances. Vernon took their chances with Lakye, Peter and Jack adding to the total.
At times we did compete against them however errors gifted Vernon 3 soft goals, also with the help of a weak ref favouring Vernon at times (must not blame ref though lol).
Unfortunately against a team of this standard you will be punished.
To be fair our boys did battle and never gave up to which this pleased me. We showed more of a threat going forward second half but Vernon stood very firm from our quick breaks.
2 very late Vernon goals gave them a flattering score line which I don't feel reflected how our boys played to which the Vernon manager agreed.
At training we will work on winning the second ball quicker, and getting our shot away sooner.
We grow as a team and learn from games such as these, Keep your heads up lads.
